Every year, from May 6 to May 12, we celebrate National Nurses Week—a time to recognize the tireless, compassionate, and essential work of nurses across the globe. This special week ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing and a symbol of dedication, reform, and resilience.
Florence Nightingale was more than a nurse—she was a pioneer. During the Crimean War in the 1850s, she transformed unsanitary conditions in military hospitals and dramatically reduced mortality rates through clean, organized, and patient-centered care. Her use of data and visual diagrams to advocate for better health outcomes laid the foundation for evidence-based nursing practice. Her legacy lives on in every nurse who brings not only skill, but compassion and advocacy, to their patients.
Today’s nurses continue to walk in Nightingale’s footsteps. They lead in patient safety, public health, education, innovation, and emergency response. Whether in hospital rooms, community clinics, schools, nursing homes or disaster zones, nurses are a vital force for healing and hope.
At OCOP Express, we’re proud to honor the nurses who serve with integrity, heart, and tireless commitment. This Nurses Week, take a moment to thank a nurse in your life!
Happy Nurses Week—and Happy Birthday, Florence Nightingale!
